I know that this is a ‘music review’ but to do this trio justice you simply have to take into account the whole package. Yet for what it lacks in originality, it more than makes up for in pure fun. It prompts strong thoughts of Queens soundtrack to Flash Gordon, along with hints of Daft Punk and John Carpenter. In isolation, Endless could be seen as something lacking many new ideas. The dialogue does hug the walls of fantasy cliché pretty tightly, but this is quickly forgiven and even understood when paired with the music of Magic Sword.

Shay Plummer has realised a fully formed world with consistently beautiful and detailed illustration. It has to be said, the comics themselves look absolutely stunning.

And without the assistance of Max Richter I would have struggled to endure a bruising but brilliant series of ten high fantasy novels (The Malazan Book of the Fallen – Steven Erikson, for anyone sad enough to care!) Magic Sword have taken away all the effort of finding the right book for the right album, by way of writing the book too.Įach of Magic Swords releases comes alongside a comic book accompaniment, and after one LP and two EP’s this is latest instalment in the ongoing saga of the protectors of the magic sword – The Keeper (keyboards), The Seer (guitar) and The Weaver (drums).

The brilliant R Plus Seven by Oneohtrix Point Never was a perfect enhancement to an atmospheric but ultimately dull dystopian science fiction novel (Annihilation – Jeff Vandermeer). I’ve formulated many an internal playlist whilst reading all kinds of material over the years. And I’m not sure if I’m in the minority here but when I read I like to listen to music, predominantly of the instrumental persuasion. There's even a fan-favorite dance and singalong by all the main characters even when they're far apart, just like Umbrella Academy did a few times. We take a look at the comic book / music crossover album of Endless by Magic Sword. Thankfully, one of them is a pretty damn good kickboxer. They don't have traditional superpowers, but they can share a consciousness, which also mean that they share any abilities they know. The idea of a unique connection between people with special abilities is at the heart of Sense8, a Netflix series from Lana and Lilly Wachowski, the creators of The Matrix, when a small group of people from all over the world discover that they're specifically in tune with one another. Maybe it's because they were all adopted by the same father figure or because they've formed a dysfunctional family with the common thread being their powers. Unlike most other superhero team-ups, The Umbrella Academy bathes in a real sense of connection between its characters.

Jamie Clayton, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Max Riemelt, Brian J. There was a lot of cast turnover beginning with the third season, but Joseph Gilgun ( Preacher, Brassic) really made the final three seasons memorable. Afterwards, they become friends through their many secrets and shared experiences, and they even manage to save the day (and each other) every once in a while. The set up is this: A group of young adults (Sheehan, Antonia Thomas, Iwan Rheon, Lauren Socha, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) who have been sentenced to community service for various offenses gain special abilities that mirror who they are after being caught in a freak electrical storm on their first day. Misfits should be one of your first stops if you're looking for something to watch that is similar to The Umbrella Academy, because not only does the five-season British dramedy also follow a number of young adults with different and surprising powers, but the show also stars Robert Sheehan.
